About That First Amendment Thing We Used To Have.....

Hoping to spark the country's silent majority into action, 131 antiwar protesters got themselves arrested Thursday, in one of the larger acts of civil disobedience in front of the White House in some time.

Carrying signs that frequently included question marks -- "Peace on earth?" and "How is the war economy working for you?" -- protesters organized by a Missouri-based veterans group marched up to the White House gates and refused to disperse, holding their ground for several hours on a snowy and blustery day.

Among those arrested was Daniel Ellsberg, the Vietnam-era whistleblower who leaked the Pentagon Papers as an act of protest in 1971. Thursday's arrest was his 80th.

Oh yes, dear reader, you have the same rights as a rabid dog.
Fuck up and there are alternative methods, for behavior modification.

Remember this?

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
I sure as fuck do.

This too,

Freedom of assembly, sometimes used interchangeably with the freedom of association, is the individual right to come together and collectively express, promote, pursue and defend common interests.[1] The right to freedom of association is recognized as a human right, a political freedom and a civil liberty.

Keep after the rotten motherfuckers, there is power in numbers and the only reason they pull this shit is out of fear.

  1. Chairman Mao said that political power comes out of the barrel of a gun. We're not quite at that point yet. Except sometimes.

  2. I'm with you all the way on this one, OB. Besides the fact that they have a basic First Amendment right to peaceably assemble, arresting protesters doesn't really stop the protests - it just pisses even more people off and shows how scared the government is of actual, in-your-face popular dissent.

Did you see those street protests in the U.K. where the students busted into the Treasury and broke a bunch of shit?

That's not far off here, if things keep going this way, and I'm going to enjoy watching the look on some congressman's face when a pissed-off citizen breaks the window on his towncar.

  3. Hi Busted,

    Yeah, what Mayberry said!

My question is, why don't news reports ever say exactly what law was allegedly broken to justify the arrest? Was it a Federal, State, or Local law? Or don't journalists care about the 5 W's anymore?

Great post about a fine bunch of Americans! I agree with the comments too - with a note to UC; I'm surprised you still expect the media to bring you any sort of information that isn't politically correct.
