Ok, now that everyone is snuggled in their own little bunkers and I have seen the stories of the shelves in every store being empty, it is time to say, we told you so.
Not that I ever, ever wanted to see something like this happen but here it is and don't you feel just a tiny bit bad for chasing around looking for D batteries at the last second?
I can't begin to count the times I have seen people roll their eyes and look down their noses at "Preppers".
Not quite as stupid as you thought we were, are we?
I feel bad for folks that are staring at the weather event of their young lives with no fucking clue where to go or what to do.
I just had this conversation with my new wife, I have been dancing around the topic for quite a while now, she has a pretty good idea that at least some form of supplies are in her future. The first thing she asked me after I brought it up again was whether or not I have a dehydrator.
Told ya she is a keeper.
I love her dearly and before we got married her excuse was no where to store anything.
Ahem.
Even in an apartment, there are places to store some survival supplies.
Now every Tom Dick and Harriett on the East Coast just figured that out.
My heart goes out to those just figuring this out.
We still have no place to live together but just had a short conversation about this very subject.
As most of you know, I live in a 35 foot long Fifth Wheel Travel Trailer.
I had a guy build me a pantry out of a closet that I have no idea what the original intent was for. It is right next to the fridge in the kitchen area.
At one time, I had enough food stored to last me six months, easy.
Where I live, water is not that much of a problem in an emergency, The Columbia River is a mile wide and five blocks away with another, small tributary eight blocks the other way.
I saw another post today complaining about toilet paper. That is a biggie.
When you have ladies and young children with you, buy that by the truck load.
For those of you who are telling yourselves that I have never been through a Hurricane, let me tell you about the storms we get on the West Coast that qualify, they just don't get names.
I have been through storms with sustained winds of 125 mph before, tornadoes and Ice storms that shut down a city with a million people for days.
What I am trying to do is open up a dialogue with some folks who are getting a pounding and never thought it would happen to them.
It's only too late if you are dead.
I sure as shit wouldn't be ready for a major shit storm like what is happening back East right this second but I can guarantee you that I would be one thousand times better off than seventy percent of those who just sat on their hands, watching this blow right into their front yards.
Even without a major hurricane coming your way, just inflation and food shortages alone should make you look around and see if you can't find a way to put a little emergency stash away.
Take my word for it,come what may, it is a great feeling of security to know that if the lights go out, that you know you and yours are going to be safe, healthy and sound when the lights come back on.
You certainly don't have to be a full on Prepper but as they always say, the more the merrier.
These aren't weirdos, they are fellow Americans and they would love to talk to you.
They would love to show you how to throw a screw right back into your grocery store by using coupons and have a wealth of information gathered from friends and family, including the things our parents and Grandparents learned the hard way during the last Depression.
They still work folks.
God Bless ya and I am anxiously awaiting the safe return of some of my Blog buddies.

Reality Tee Vee I Can Get Behind
Enough of this Dancing with the Stars bullshit, no more Survivors either.
Now you can have your kids have a dose of reality, this is where your food comes from.
I don't know about anyone else but I sure as fuck don't have any " meat guilt".
I like tasty dead animal parts.
I used to laugh when I grossed out the poor little honey at the local mini mart when I would go in and order some dead chicken parts. (Hot wings)
People today are so removed from the actual processes of what it takes to put an order of hot Wings or Pork Chops on their dinner table. I think this is a great idea.
I saw a report a few months ago from Brittan that the kids over there couldn't even identify a fucking tomato, I was shocked. Dumbfounded.
How could a kid get to be eight fucking years old and not know what a fucking tomato looked like?
Somebody's Momma needs an ass beating.
Slaughtering animals for food is messy, stinks like hell and is not pretty by any means. It is also what humans have done for thousands of years.
They also taught their children , up until recently.
Plucking a wet chicken is enough to gag the strongest stomach but if you want fried chicken for Sunday dinner, you better get after it.
I remember my Granny going out back behind the house and randomly grabbing the nearest chicken and start swinging it around until the body flew off and she had the head in her hands. I think I was about six years old. The fucking chicken got up and ran under the shed. Granny told me to crawl under there and get that chicken if I wanted supper.
Let me tell ya, I had never seen anything like that and I haven't forgotten it forty five years later.
I was scared to death but Granny wasn't taking no for an answer.
Under the shed I went, crawling through chicken blood and spider webs.
I grabbed the sonofabitch and drug it out and handed it to Granny.
She just looked at me and said, Come with me boy.
Now you know how I can tell you plucking a wet chicken can make ya puke.
God, how I miss that woman.
So, it is going to come back to this here shortly, we are already well on our way.
Might as well get a head start and watch it on Tee Vee to get an idea if you don't already know, at least it won't stink.
Make sure yer kids watch it too, Hard scrabble old grannies who lived through the Depression are few and far between now and couldn't catch a chicken if they wanted to.
Now you can have your kids have a dose of reality, this is where your food comes from.
Just in case your meat guilt wasn't powerful enough, here comes Kill It, Cook It, Eat It, a BBC show premiering in America January 11th at 7 p.m. on Current TV. Each episode, volunteers will head out to the farm to meet, care for, and then slaughter and eat a wide variety of tasty creatures.
I don't know about anyone else but I sure as fuck don't have any " meat guilt".

A Heads Up For Those In The PNW, Cluck, Cluck
I just stopped at SafeWay to get a couple of items on my way home and they currently have whole roasted chickens in the cute little carrying case for$5.99.
You can't even hardly get a raw chicken for that.
Someone else pointed out that they have Mild Tillamook cheese, two pounds for a little over five bucks.
I had to go find some lady to find it for me, SafeWay is a giant cluster fuck if you don't know where every thing is.
I finally found the powdered milk, stay the hell away from that, it is outrageous.
The beer went out the roof too. What was thirteen ninety nine two years ago is now twenty three ninety nine for a thirty pack.
Any way, if ya are around one of these places, get the roasted chicken, you can't even make one yourself that cheap.
That will be enough for me to eat on for several days, if I quit drinking the beer.
Not likely to happen but I had chicken legs that were still hot for dinner and stuck the rest in the fridge.
Hot chicken sandwiches with melted cheese tomorrow.
I am thinking chicken and rice too.
Win, win.

So much for Summer
My fucking furnace kicked on two weeks ago in the middle of the night, in August.
Nasty smelling shit went through the joint for a couple of minutes, you know what I am talking about.
Hey, at least it still works.
It has been getting down into the fifties at night around here for a while now.
I just kicked it on for a few minutes to knock the chill off.
We had a weird assed Summer around here this year.
It rained like a cow pissing on a flat rock all the way to the end of June.
Then it got nice, then it got wicked hot for a bit and it rained all fucking day today, still is.
Fall is here just a bit early.
I felt it change all at once about this time of year the last two running.
This year it is a bit different but I heard a couple of other people mention it and I can certainly agree.
Fuck.
I haven't got shit done that I wanted to do yet it seems.
I spent the last week at my folks while they were on an Alaskan cruise, volunteering to help take care of my Grandmother who fell off the toilet the same day my folks left and broke her wrist. My Mom's friend was there to take care of her but when I heard about that, I had to go.
It was a good thing as it took two of us to take care of her, she can't see or hear hardly and couldn't walk three fucking feet. We were busy.
At this point, I would like to take a moment and seriously thank a few people who donated some hard earned cash to the cause.
I almost don't know what to say, other than thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
I am still in shock that someone would do that for me.
Blind sided actually.
I will be using that to pay the bill for the internet connection and then I will be ranting and raving again.
Are you sure that's what you wanted to do?
Thanks again, seriously.
Back to the weather, my garden didn't do shit this year and every one I talk to says the same thing.
It is going to cause me to completely rethink what I need to do over the winter.
I was hoping to have some kind of Indian Summer but at the rate it is going now, I ain't counting on it.
I have kind of been out of the loop when it comes to the news lately but I already know what is coming and it is going to be extremely fucking ugly.
Do what ya can and try and take care of each other, we are all we have.
Thanks fer stopping by.

Let Me Introduce You To My Other Treasonous Set Of Friends.
Actually, I can't call them friends, they have no idea I even exist and will be shocked to see where you came from if you actually click on the links below.
Warning, this is a long post and if you have a problem reading any thing that takes over ten minutes, go see your doctor.
I have deleted several instances of excessive vulgarity which is not my usual style in case anyone wants to link to this post.
The reason I call them treasonous friends is because we share the common belief that our government cares less than a whit about us as individuals and we have to take care of our selves and loved ones and because.. we recognize that politics as usual is a waste of time. feed me Seymore doesn't work.
Do you know that the Federal government of this country is , by law, passed by our own Congress, to have enough food stored to feed every man, woman and child in this country for two years?
That's a fact.
My bad, they changed the rules while I wasn't lookng.
Here is the actual wording from lhttp://www.archives.gov/federal-register/codification/executive-order/12656.html in the mean time.
Part 3--Department of Agriculture.
My bold.
They have just about enough to feed about half of us a half a loaf of bread for a month, if they can find it, it ain't moldy and they can distribute it to where it needs to go before it does get moldy and they can find a truck and a driver who will do it cheap. Never fear, the wars go on and Goldman Sachs can give BILLIONS away for bonuses.
I made a passing reference to the Prepper sites I frequent the other day and now you get to meet them..
Let me preface this with the fact that I am pretty much a left leaning Liberal scumbag in some of these peoples eyes but I have just enough of a Libertarian streak that we should all get along pretty damned well. Also, this is less than one percent of these types of sites that I read on a regular basis.
Besides, trying to make sure you and your family has enough to eat and can see at night ain't a bad thing.
I am going to start beating up on Nasty Girl real serious like to get her shit together a little more, even if my shit is scattered all over the place.
I still have enough to feed myself for at least two months, probably more and if the fucking lights go out, I know I will be good for a while in that aspect and I will tell you this, I am one innovative individual.
When I was sixteen, I made an alchohol stove out of a tuna fish can and some strips of cardboard wrapped around inside to heat up a can of chili.
That was thirty four years ago, think I haven't learned a few things since then?
I actually cut the frame of an old Ford LTD in half with an axe one time so I could haul it for scrap to get the money to eat.
Try that sometime.
My Grandparents were raised during the Great Depression and I lived with them off and on for many years, exclusively after I took off from home at fifteen, after a brief stint with my real mother and her crazy drunken husband, which is where I did the alchohol burner trick.
I was in the Cub Scouts, was a Webelos and did some serious assed hiking for two weeks that covered fifty miles around some seriously huge and frozen volcanoes when I was twelve.
I have been hungry, near starvation and I don't want to ever go there again.
I have stayed under bridges, lived in my car, lived in a van and have frozen my ass off under the stars.
I don't often harp on this subject here but we are currently in The Greater Depression, even if no one wants to say it out loud, the current economic plight of every day Americans is going down hill and gaining momentum.
It is past time that you should be putting some resources away and I am going to give you some places to get the information that you will need that could prove to be critical and be desperate to have in the future
Pay serious attention and book mark these links. Then, continue to monitor them because the Shit has already Hit The Fan and you can't eat American Idol.
First off,
100 things that disappear in a prolonged emergency.
Copy this and get busy.
Long time preppers are already half way through this list or more, I personally have a long ways to go but I still work at it.
Now comes the links that you should watch, granted they are bloggers and it isn't every day they post about specifics but generally do a good job, the thing to remember is not to crap your pants and go into debt getting ready, that is counter intuiitive, read their back content and archives.
Survival Blog, this is the Grand Daddy of them all. One warning, the recommendations espoused will be way the heck beyond the average Americans ability to afford, there is great info if you pick through it though.
Especially the archives. start there.
Next up, a great guy who actually lives the life every day and has a wealth of info on how to live off grid and thrive, M.D. Creekmore @ The Survivalist Blog.
Hey, when you are being foreclosed on like I was, you can get pretty damn appreciative of a damn travel trailer for a roof over your head and that guy does it well. Serious info for hard core off grid living and a damn nice guy in my opinion, I wish we were neighbors and I had a giant still.
Next up, Wretha. Another off grid, no dang electricity, out in the middle of no where, kicking ass and taking names kinda gal.
OK, this next one reminds me of my dear departed Grandmother sometimes so much that I just want to give her a giant bear hug and a squeeze it kills me.
Jackie Clay.
I absolutely adore this woman, I swear, she is the Martha Stewart for us regular folks.Go read every word this lady has ever written and then buy her cookbook. I can't recommend her highly enough.
Oh my, what a wonderful lady. A virtual walking encyclopedia for canning advice. She has a blog associated with Back Woods Home magazine, who is my next recommendation.
Moving along, this has already taken an hour, we have a a few other places I suggest you peruse, this ain't no cake walk and knowledge is power.
I am going to link to a couple of other folks who are trying to get by with hard work and limited resources.
Sometimes it's not all sugar plums and unicorn farts, there is serious work and unexpected hardships involved in just trying to live and raise kids and varmints.
One of my favorites is Self Sustained Living.
MMPaints is having a hard time getting by right now but exhibits some of the best qualities of what made this country great.
My hat is off to you honey.
Best of luck to you.
Here is one that is geographically close to me as the crow flies but would take over two hours to drive to because of this huge river between us and how far I would have to drive to get to the nearest bridge.
This lady is a farmer, a real one, who grows her own beef and takes care of her soil, does the hay bailing thing and cooks on a wood stove. Throw Back At Trapper Creek.Mind you, she does this on the side of a volcano in the North West corner of Oregon.
The weather up here is a couple of months behind Texas, take my word on that...
I told you this could take a while.
Two other sites you should read regularly are Sharon Astyk's Blog , she even has written a couple of books and teaches classes, in her own house., the other one would be Preparedness Pro.
This lady lays down the law, get yourself ready and here is how to do it,
There are literally hundreds of sites that will give you solid advice how to be a bit prepared for even a small inconvenience such as a temporary electrical failure all the way to zombie hordes beating down your door to eat your brains.
I would hope that anyone who actually reads my ranting has enough brain power to differentiate between the two.
This ain't no joke folks, this country is going belly up and there will be a day when the shelves will be empty.
Just ask anyone who lived in New Orleans after Katrina and had to move to Oregon. It happened.
There are counties grinding up their tore up roads and turning them back to gravel, that is your clue.
Three unemployed neighbors are mine, I have to reconsider the fact that they know I have toilet paper, let alone Rice A Roni.
Warning, this is a long post and if you have a problem reading any thing that takes over ten minutes, go see your doctor.

God forbid you have a tail light out though.
- (b) Protection, treatment, and handling of livestock and poultry, or products thereof, that have been exposed to or affected by hazardous agents;
- (c) Use and handling of crops, agricultural commodities, timber, and agricultural lands that have been exposed to or affected by hazardous agents; and

Still Working At It
I pretty much let getting prepared go for a while, I had a buddy staying with me and he wasn't working and both of my immediate neighbors aren't either. So I kinda used up a bunch of my food preps. He finally found a guy that needed his house taken care of for several months while he went commercial fishing in Alaska.
I have been in a financial hole for a while, shit happens and I am clawing my way back, I'm going to be OK for the forseeable future.
I did have one paycheck Friday that was pretty much free and clear after all these months and I took it and had a runaway with it at the local Bi Mart store.
I found an aluminum 32quart water bath canner that was only 7 bucks more than the traditional enameled one. Check. I got five more tomato cages to go over the plants my ex gave me too.
Got a case of beer and twenty pounds of cat food that was on sale at the check out for the same damn price as the ten pounder of the same brand I had.
Got the flea treatment for the fucking varmints while I was at it too.
They had Rice A Roni and those Cheezy Tater things on sale, 10 fer 10 bucks, bought thirty bucks worth of those damn things, the pantry is looking better all ready.
Four cases of canning jars and five extra boxes of lids, some pectin and a few canned goods.
A few other assorted things and walked out $191 and change lighter but I feel a whole lot better for it.
The garden is not going to do much this year, it was just too damned wet clear through June so I am going to wind up buying stuff to can but that's all right, I will.
The one thing I have to get, is one of those big propane burners from Harbor Freight so I can do that shit outside.
A sheet of plywood and the tail gate of my truck, two saw horses and I will be in business.
That reminds me, I need to dig out the dehydrator and put that sumbitch to work too.
Keep yer chin up and yer nose to the grindstone, it is going down hill at thirty two feet per second, per second*.
* The force of gravity.
Bet you didn't know I actually graduated two years of college with national honors and actually remember some of that useless info.Yep, I have an Associates Degree in Applied Science for Automotive Technology, Phi Theta Kappa, Who's Who in Junior College, 1991.
I'm still an Ornery Bastard, just edjumacated a little.

Pay Attention To Kyrgyzstan.
Yeah, I can't spell it either but mark my word, it is coming here.
After their political coup a few months ago that brought rioting in the streets and their president to flee for his life, things have gone downhill and now there is complete anarchy.
The second largest city is being burned to the ground, insurgents are raiding armories for weapons and when they can't find those, are using metal pipes and anything else they can get their hands on and , Oh yeah, once again, the ethnic cleansing has begun.
Reports of women and children trying to flee the horror being gunned down have surfaced.
That tells me there are other atrocities being committed that haven't been reported yet.
Anyone over fifty should remember the fiery Watts riots in California and the riots after Rodney Kings beating at the hands of the police.
Think that shit can't happen here and I have a big bridge to sell ya.
We have just not seen that level of violence on a national scale.
My advice is to fucking get ready for just that.
Harden up your doors, get some food , water, ammo and band aids put away and quit watching the fucking idiots on Tee Vee for your news.
Bad shit is coming down the pike, a lot of people have been telling you that.
Greece just went nuts, so did Spain, now this. It is contagious and we are not immune.
The Gulf is dead and they are still playing fuckity fuck with the information they will allow you to have.
Get a FUCKING clue, they are lying to you.
They will not even allow a reporter to get near the gulf, even though the First amendment guarantees a free press.
They won't even allow anyone to fly over it to take a picture of this disaster.
Hello?
Can you not fucking put two and two together?
It is out of control and is MASSIVE.
I predicted two months ago that when a hurricane hits that mess, it was going to be raining oil in Ohio, now the PTB are saying the same damn thing.
I ain't no genius but I can damn well tell ya when it starts raining oil, which it will, it is going to poison thousands of square miles of farm land and all the earth and people who live there too.
Wake the fuck up.
When that happens, TSHTF.

The Long Slide Into Anarchy Continues Unabated
Four more banks went under Friday, that makes 26 this year,it is early March, and 140 last year.
166 banks tits up in a little over a year.
The ARM's are due to reset and another gazillion people will be staring at foreclosure.
That isn't some abstract thing, I came damn close to being foreclosed on and it one of the scariest things I have ever faced because I had a family.
Millions of Americans have already had that worst fear become a reality and millions more are about to.
The Commercial real estate bubble is exploding, the economy is in the shitter and unemployment is still very high.
Now I am seeing where these fancy pants economists are talking about a double dip recession.
Let me, in no uncertain terms, call BULLSHIT.
There is no double dip, the fucking economy is still in the throws of DEPRESSION.
There was no recovery, even though they tried to hornswaggle everyone into thinking that there was some kind of end to the misery, there wasn't.
Just the same shit and more of it, ad nauseum.
Then, to add insult to injury, we had Rep Bunning single handedly hold up an unemployment benefits extension for hundreds of thousands of suffering Americans just to make some cheap political points.
His reaction when other Senators tried begging him to quit blocking the motion?
"Tough Shit".
I don't think Mr. Bunning realizes just how lucky he is to still be alive.
Everyone except the ultra rich is feeling the pinch.
I have seen several other Bloggers note increased traffic cops everywhere, fining the shit out of every infraction they can find, trying to raise revenue. I don't give a shit what they call their tactics, safety yadda yadda, it is money they are after and damn straight skippy, I have noticed it around here too.
The PTB are going to fuck around and find out you can't get blood out of a turnip.
The whole country is broke, the States, the Feds and the people.
Meanwhile, the Banksters are still playing the same fucking game they were that brought all this misery upon us and no one has done a fucking thing to change the rules, business as usual.
There is a huge crack in the foundation under our country and they are driving a wedge in it with a sledge hammer.
When it finally crumbles, there is going to be hell to pay.
When the average American Idiot finally realizes the game is up, there is going to be anarchy.
That is something as a country we cannot afford to see.
Spring is coming finally, it is a beautiful day outside and now I am going to get off my own lazy ass and do something I have been waiting for.
I am going outside and start my garden.
I have lots to do and then I am going to the Dollar store and see if I can't get a few more boxes of those delicious Scalloped Potatoes to stash away.
Keep your eyes open and your ass hunkered down, it ain't over by a long shot, don't believe a word of any economic recovery, they are lying motherfuckers. We know it, they know it and they know we know it.
Stop playing their games and start taking steps to minimize the amount of propaganda that you expose yourselves to and for God's sake, start putting food away.
Tomatoes are already scarce and Leggo My Eggo is more true now than ever, there aren't any.
Open your eyes!
The just in time inventory system is a miserable failure.
Start a pantry and stock it up so you are not vulnerable to disruptions in the delivery system!
Now get yer butts outside and get busy.

I ain't fucking kidding.
I just went off on a tangent from what I originally started to talk about, it scared me after twenty minutes of venting and I was not even close to being done.
Go buy three square miles of tin foil. I went through one 25 square foot roll at one time. That stuff is right up there with duct tape.

When Property Values Get Ya Upside Down

Which is going to happen to ya, one fucking way or another, go take some advice from some of these other Ornery Bastards, they can show ya a thing or two, pay the fuck attention. Laugh now and look down your nose at us living in trailers, I ain't paying fourteen hundred bucks a month for rent, or a damn house payment anymore, neither are these guys.
Mickey at The Survivalist Blog, seems to get by just fine on his own and likes it.He also has a WEALTH of info on how to do it right.I kinda like this guy.
All I can say about this next guy, James Dakin at Bison Survival is how to do it so fucking cheap, he makes his own copper wire out of pennies he finds in a parking lot and will tell you how to use it to keep the Barbarians at the gate.
I'm serious.
Kind of a one off dude but he will show you where the bear shits in the desert, somewhere behind his trailer, in a five gallon bucket with a toilet lid seat bolted to it and a plastic bag full of sawdust inside.
You think I'm kidding, right?
Another guy I pay attention to, I think may just be orneyer than I am, maybe, some cranky ol' guy that calls himself SunFighter.
I do believe we could sit and have a beer some afternoon, right before he called me a pussy.
So be it, ya gotta give props to those that do, instead of talk about it and here ya fucking go dude,
Down In The Ozark Hills.
All I can say is ya better click on that link now, Cranky Bastard keeps deleting his blogs, this is number three.
He has been to Grandma's house before.
These are just three guys who actually do it, they live on a small footprint as cheap as they can and I can see a lot of foreclosed motherfuckers that can use the info these guy's have to offer. It's not like an apartment but beats the shit out of living out of your car, been there, done that, this beats the SHIT out of that.
There is a learning curve but I am telling anyone upside down on their mortgage, get a fucking trailer while they are still cheap, they are not going to stay that way very long.
The big thing after ya get one is where the fuck to put it.
All three of these guys found a way to find a piece of dirt to put it on, cheap. Go find out how they did that, all three have a different story. Myself, I got lucky and found a trailer park that accepted me, they are all getting real picky about how old the trailer is and most now, will tell ya to keep going if it is over ten years old, so beware.
I say get one, even as a back up, ya never know when the Mother in Law is coming and you need a little space to scratch yerself real good while drinking a beer and watching the game, No, not for her, moron, for you! Lock the damn door behind ya!

Just Making A Point Here
I keep seeing naysayers saying that storing up things to get by in hard times is a waste of time in the event of a total collapse of society as there will be no more fuel, trade goods, food, etc., etc,.
My rebuttal to that is,
If I still have the things that I stored, I will be around long enough to find a way to survive longer than you will and still be strong enough to pull a trigger on yer ass when you come and try to take my things.
Then, what ever you had, is mine, thus ensuring I get to see one more sunrise.
Even if it is just your liver.

Get One!
I am on an email list for Lehmans, they send me special offers all the time. Most of the time I look and delete but this time I found something I really want to get, except it is currently on back order.
I am putting this way up on the list of things to get, even if it is just for a power outage, I can see where this little unit would be a very valuable addition to my preps.

It comes with the special grill you use after pulling the top off, a base so it won't tip over and a 12 ounce cup.
I bet there are thousands of folks that wish they had one or two of these little buggers, what with all the snow and freezing temperatures that have been slamming the Mid West and the East Coast.
They are only thirty bucks when they are in stock.
I am going to find one of these, pronto.
Click on the link above for more info.

This, Is Why We Prepare

If you lived in the Washington DC area right now, this is what you would see at your local Safeway.
They are forecast to get between twenty and twenty eight inches of snow shortly and everybody and their dog panicked and cleaned out the store.
Imagine not only not having food and lights and such already stored but being broke to boot?
This is a recurrent problem in this country and it seems a lot of people have the memory of a fucking gnat.
Just tonight, I went to get some beer, as I was leaving, there is a discount store next door and I got in the truck and started to drive off but that damn discount store started calling me. I didn't ignore it, either. I parked and locked the truck and went inside, not having a clue what it was I was going to find.
I went up and down five aisles before I found it,Quart jars of Prego Mushroom spaghetti sauce for a buck and boxes and boxes of different kinds of pasta for seventy five cents apiece.
Twelve dollars and fifty cents later, I hauled out enough to eat on for a week straight, easily.
I also got three packets of Country gravy mix, some Hamburger Helper, a bag of rice and a bag of pinto beans. For twelve fifty, I bought enough food to eat on for three freakin' weeks. Who cannot justify that?
Call me crazy all you want, I'll just fart in your eye and pick my teeth when there isn't a damn thing on the shelves.
H/T Gawker for the pics and the article I swiped 'em from.

So It Begins
I got a bonus present for my birthday, another fucking cold.
I felt it coming on Sunday night and true to form, I am in bed today, hacking and coughing, tickle in the throat, my head is completely plugged up and I have a sinus headache just for fun.
I hit the Nyquil after I woke up this morning with all the above, plus my eyes were glued shut with crusty shit.
Yay.
I got up at noon and started to drive to work and stopped at the nearest convenience store to get some kind of cold remedy, oh fuck no.
By the time I got out of there, my head was pounding and I was sneezing and hacking constantly.
I am so sick of being sick!
I finally had some relief about an hour ago.
I spent some time on line looking at seed outfits, the garden bug is biting me too. I tried to order some on line but fer some damn reason, it wouldn't take my card even though there is enough mony to cover it easily. The damn thing has been giving me fits lately when I try to swipe it too. Fuck that noise.
I dragged my narrow ass out of bed and went three blocks down the road to the Feed Store and collected quite a variety of seeds for this coming Spring.
I also got a wild hair up my ass and bought 50 fucking pounds of something that I am going to have to get my shit together to process and store but hey,I got it out of the way at least.
While I was online earlier, I also surfed around a site called LocalHarvest Dot Org that you can use to look around anywhere in the country to find local farms and farmers markets and actually found a lady less than a mile from me who sells fresh eggs, the occasional chicken and manure to compost. Quite the score if she emails me back.
Check it out.
Anyway another round of uncontrollable hacking is upon me and I can feel a fever too. I am going to see if I can't burn this off.
Got seeds?
If not, they are forecasting shortages for some seed types, food shortages in general and who knows what the fuck else here in the near future. I don't need a tin foil hat, I don't trust these motherfuckers anyway.
Get off yer ass, I did.

Tit For Tat And Who really Gives A Fuck Anymore?
So, some lady got lazy thinking she had a certain win for Ted Kennedy's seat and lost her ass.
As far as I can tell, the Dems got one last year in New York, the Repugs got this one and every fucking one of of the rest of us just lost twice.
What the fuck bit of difference just happened is beyond my comprehension because as far as I am concerned, they are all still the same bunch of assholes who don't give a rat fuck what we the people want so they can all kiss my fucking ass.
The Dems couldn't gather a set of balls out of a majority of them and the Repugs are all just bat shit insane and the real winners out of this fucking fiasco are the corporate mother fuckers who pay for it all in the first place.
At this point, it doesn't matter, y'all can lick my fucking balls and anyone who happens to read this needs to realize that one fucking vote for any fucking asshole running for office is, they have one thing in mind.
They spent a ton of some other stupid fuck's money to get there, is a vote for a sonofabitch that still has one thing in mind. Money to get there and all they want is to pay that shit back and make another ton for themselves.Fuck you little peons, I need a new mansion.
Voting at this time is a validation of this same God Damn cycle.
Take the gas money you would spend for this lesson in futility and buy some fucking groceries because the food supply chain is about to detonate.
Either that or go fuck your brains out for sport.
The electoral process in this country has been massively Co-opted and has been proven to have been so since 2000.1776.
Kill the beast.
12 Trillion dollars in debt, massive voter fraud thanks to DieBold,Mercenary assholes like XE, (Blackwater) that we pay Billions to, Dick Fucking Cheney and the cunts in charge of the oil companies,
Halliburton, Exxon, AIG, Goldman Sachs, motherfuckers at The Fed, all those dirty sonsabitches like Geithner and Bernananke, we are SO FUCKED!
There is a giant fucking disaster coming, get yer asses to the store and get ya some Macaroni and cheese, some fucking beer and a machete.
At least you can be evenly matched with the poor starving folks in Haiti, except all they have are the fucking machetes.
I am so disgusted with the political machinations in this country, I am thinking it would be a good thing for those who conspire to office that greatly thinking about your personal well being first should be a pre requisite.

Bread, Butter, Taters And The Things I Take For Granted
Pretty damn amazing the things I take for granted.
A two block drive and see how many quarters I have left over from doing laundry.
Two inches of snow tonight and the whole world went to hell, idiots.
Paper Towels?
Bleach?
A sack of onions for a buck?
The Dollar store is only good for so much.
Right now, Taters are dirt cheap.
Butter is cheaper than Margarine for some strange reason.
These staple items are something I need to figure out how to store in a God Damn trailer with no freezer.
Onions and Taters I might be able to do, Butter and Margarine are another story.
No Knead Bread is looking to be a can do thing.
Other than that, I see something addressed to U.R.Phooked, here shortly.
I ain't going to starve by any means, it is these little things that are going to be problematic, I see.
I need to find me a farmers market or better yet, a farmers daughter.
A two block drive and see how many quarters I have left over from doing laundry.
Two inches of snow tonight and the whole world went to hell, idiots.
Paper Towels?
Bleach?

She Canna Take Anymore, Captain!

As the year winds down and I take a gander at all the shit we have been through, it is less than heartening to look forward to the gathering shit storm that is in our future.
Basically, the entire world is completely out of control.
FUBAR.
On one hand, we have financial system that is rotten to the core and keeps rewarding criminal behavior handsomely.
Must be a nice gig if you can get it.
On another front, we have entire cities that are flat out dying, look no farther than Detroit as a prime example.
Unemployment is at a generational high, millions of people are getting foreclosed on and losing their homes.
One in eight people are on food stamps, forty states are projected to run out of unemployment money.
California, who has an annual budget larger than many countries, is flat assed broke and in the middle of an even larger water crisis.
The list goes on and on.
I started watching this perfect storm in November of 2007 and it just keeps getting worse.
Now, on top of it all, there is reportedly going to be an emerging food crisis with expected triple digit price increases and world wide shortages.
The USDA is talking out both sides of it's mouth, saying it is expecting bumper crops this year while at the same time it has declared the bread basket of the country to be a fucking disaster area.
Draw your own conclusions there, after all, it is a Federal agency and they are here to help.
Cough, cough.
Rice, again, is supposed to be in short supply again this next year.
On top of all that, I see where some crazy sonofabitch tried to blow up a plane and now the TSA is going to treat every passenger like an errant four year old and nobody can have any kind of electronic device on and must sit facing forward with their hands in their lap for the last hour of a flight.
If that wasn't so God Damn pathetic, it would be hysterical.
All I can say to that is take a fucking train, they have yet to fuck that completely up but rest assured that they are trying as hard as they can.
Commercial real estate continues to tank and Timmy the Great says we can expect to see an ease in unemployment come spring.
There is one dude who needs to experience unemployment for an extended period, asshole.
So, gentle readers and trolls alike, we are in for more of the same in the coming year, I actually expect it to get worse by next summer.
All I can do is try to hang on by my finger nails like everyone else, except I have been slowly building up enough grub and supplies so I can at least eat, whatever the fuck comes down the pipe.
I don't like what I am not seeing, what they are not saying, but I am watching and every two to three weeks the PTB try to slip a little something past us.
Pay attention and keep your wits about ya, there is a Bad Moon Rising.
Actually, the whole enchilada is on a fast track into a brick wall.

Get One

I kid you not, this is a serious piece of hardware. This was a decent picture, mine is a Lewis and Clark rememberative edition that you can cook buiscits on top too.
I bought a Pork roast that wouldn't fit in my little Crock Pot and dug out my Dutch Oven that I had never used.
I had seasoned it and put it away and DAMN! does that thing rock!
Holy Moley, it is now going into regular rotation.
I use cast iron to cook with almost exclusively, I can't believe my cabinets haven't fallen off the wall yet but I think I am in love with this damn thing.
Note to self,
get some frikkin' Pot Holders.

Kerosene Lanterns Suck Ass
I managed to pop a couple of fuses in the Weasel Den tonight and wound up getting the little kerosene lanterns out.
A fucking candle would have been just as effective.
These things are fucking dangerous.
Try filling one of these little bastards up by the light of another one some time.
When it gets full?
Yeah, shit flows all over the table, next to an open flame. Want some more light out of the damn thing? It can do that, if you are prepared to chew on a constant stream of black, nasty assed smoke that comes out of the chimney.
I now have a dish rag that I could lite up and send a distress signal half way across town. While I was messing around in the dark with these damn things, I managed to get the LITTLE, TINY, light over the stove to come on. This is the light in your fucking glove box. That sonofabitch put out more damn light than FOUR of the Hurricane lanterns I had lit up!
The Hurricane lanterns are about fucking useless, unless you hang them by your ankles to keep you from tripping on shit while you try to find a light.
It's no wonder people couldn't read back in the Nineteenth Century.
In an actual emergency, I would tell you that these things are more likely to start a house fire or kill you with the soot and Carbon Monoxide as they are to do ya a bit of good.
Just my opinion but it was a real eye opener.

Stone Soup, Revisited
I will be the first to admit, I can't remember where I saw this but I know it was on the internet, so I can't give credit.
All I can do is link to Wickipedia for the story and I would like you to go read this before you continue.
I got to thinking about this tonight after I started adding a bunch of stuff out of my fridge to a pot of soup I started the other day.
I have to give credit for that inspiration to that cutie, little Rachael Ray.
Like her or not, that was the one damn thing I miss about getting rid of my TV, The Food Channel.
Anyway. I remember watching one of her Dinner in a Half hour, whatever they called it shows and she made Chicken Noodle Soup in a half hour.
Of course she cheated but I was impressed and actually tried it, with my own twist, and it was great!
So, the other day, I was digging in the fridge and found some celery that was fixing to go bad, a buddy had given me some tomatoes that were in the same shape too.
Further exploration came up with some ground Italian sausage and some Cajun Pork cutlets.
Hmm, time for some soup.
I added a can of Baby clams( note to self, get a freakin' CASE of those things!),
a quarter cup of instant rice, a can of potatoes, mash 'em up a little first, a whole onion and six cloves of garlic.
Throw in some chili powder, onion powder and stir on High like yer life depended on it.
Oh, of course, while you are at it, Two Table spoons of Louisiana Hot Sauce too.
Stir until it boils and turn it to simmer, keep stirring.
My point here is, if you have such a thing as a big stock pot or a large cast iron pot and can keep it simmering all day, you can feed a great many people, even if they only have a small donation to the ingredients. The longer you cook it, the thicker it gets and it quickly turns into a stew, just add water.
I am doing this just for myself and eating on a four quart pan for a couple of days.
Imagine what you could do with a huge Stock Pot or a Crock pot.
Just keep throwing things in it and have a hot dish, anytime of the day.
This is how people used to live two centuries ago, sometimes you have to wonder just how modern luxuries replaced one of the greatest things ever invented, a bowl of hot, home made soup.
If you can afford to get through this mess by yourself, more power to you, the rest of us are going to be eating a lot of Stone Soup.
