It's A Republic, If You Can Keep It

Of course, we didn't and the whole shebang just went down the shitter.

By a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court on Thursday rolled back restrictions on corporate spending on federal campaigns. The decision could unleash a torrent of corporate-funded attack ads in upcoming campaigns.

"With its ruling today, the Supreme Court has given a green light to a new stampede of special interest money in our politics," said President Obama in a statement. "It is a major victory for big oil, Wall Street banks, health insurance companies and the other powerful interests that marshal their power every day in Washington to drown out the voices of everyday Americans...

Democracy 21's Fred Wertheimer, for years a leading advocate of campaign finance reform, called the decision a "disaster for the American people and a dark day for the Supreme Court."

"The Supreme Court majority has acted recklessly to free up corporations to use their immense, aggregate corporate wealth to flood federal elections and buy government influence. The Fortune 100 companies alone had combined revenues of $13 trillion and profits of $605 billion during the last election cycle," Wertheimer wrote.

"Under today's decision, insurance companies, banks, drug companies, energy companies and the like will be free to each spend $5 million, $10 million or more of corporate funds to elect or defeat a federal candidate -- and thereby to buy influence over the candidate's positions on issues of economic importance to the companies."

There it is, game over, Mission Accomplished, the average American officially has no voice left to be heard. Corporate America can drown out millions of voices and literally buy the politician and legislation they want with the stroke of a pen on a check.

Fucked again by SCOTUS.

I predict that there is going to be a backlash, a very serious backlash.
The first fucking thing we need to do is get rid of the laws that gave corporations the equal rights as a person.

I personally have had enough of this horse shit, this is not the country I was born in fifty years ago, not even a close facsimile.
This is now officially a Banana Republic, third world shithole.
A corporate owned Police State.

Fuck you very much SCOTUS,you broke it, you own it.
When there is no Middle Class America left to speak of and every working stiff is doing all they can to survive, you turn around and sell the farm.

Change is going to come and it is going to be very, very, ugly. Mark my words, it is coming at the speed of light.

  1. It feels lost already. I worry that middle class Americans are still too comfy to actually revolt. Hell, half of them are still living in the dreamworld that they too someday will be filthy rich.

  2. Thanks for being on top of this, Busted. I got the word from Mark Hoback earlier today as I was working on my essay about the "stolen" MA election (yes, it probably was folks although we'll never really know because we no longer bother with counting votes).

A thought on the Supremes judgment about your democratic right to have bought-and-paid-for elections without apology (how do you like that cute, young Chief Justice now?):

When I was taking pre-law courses at UNC under some very well-respected Ph.D. LLD's, one tenet which always held true and was a cornerstone of Supreme Court cases that changed precedents (like Brown vs. Board of Education) was that no close votes were allowed by the leadership (Chief Justice and other long-serving Justices). No 5-4 votes for important world-changing issues. Not even any 6-3 votes were entertained.

This changed under Bush and I remember remarking to anyone who would listen that hardly any reportage occurred in the MSM on this phenomena. Now, it happens everyday.

And there is a reason. We must be very close to the endgame. And there is no longer any pretense at being a democracy, Constitutionally directed or not.

They no longer care. My thought is that the black ops world is in total charge now. And as one who used to be in it and knows who these people are and how they operate . . . .

I hate to say it, but be prepared.

    Thanks again for the coverage.

He who has the gold makes the rules. Maybe we should take the gold back to the people.

    Kill the beast.

I think we are far from the straw that broke the horses back, but definitely one step closer. This will continue until the people of this country band together and fight against big business to regain control of this country. Sadly, I do not think there are enough people in this country that really care. I think the general consensus is "this does not affect me".

Unless there is some type of Constitutional Amendment to change this decision (good luck with that), the game is over and they don't even care who knows it now. Remember, the Constitution and its amendments ONLY APPLY to the various Governments (federa, state, and local) and DO NOT apply to corporations. Thus, Corporations now can buy the politicians who make the laws that can exempt corporations for any liability for violating constitutional rights such as illegal search and seizure and wiretapping (see Patriot Act). And then the corporation can provide the "evidence" to the governments who are then free to use it to convict you of a crime since the evidence was not illegally obtained by the Government, which would make it inadmissible. Also, if a corporation wants your property, it buys the politicians who will use eminant domain to take your property from you (been done already). This ruling is the greatest threat to America since the civil war. God bless Americas and make sure you pay cash for anything you buy that you don't want the government to know about. i.e. ammo, guns from private transactions (no checks), prepper supplies.

Shit, I'm a progressive democrat and I know what is coming down the pike. This Supreme Court is going to rule anything enacted for healthcare unconstitutional by a 5-4 decision. Corporations will end up getting labor laws repealed, restrictions on trade for goods manufactured in slave shop prisons, etc. repealed. We Are FUCKED.
