Sara Robinson nails it. This lady is going places.
We have all been railing about this shit for years, one of the main reasons I started ranting and raving a few years ago. It's nice to know that spewing electrons out into the ether actually accomplishes something.
Left, Right or Center, pay attention.
"This Argument" is flawed right from the get-go. Notice how the author uses Paxton's definition of fascism. Here is another definition from Answer.com: Fascism
ReplyDeleteA system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.
A political philosophy or movement based on or advocating such a system of government.
Oppressive, dictatorial control.
The problem that I see is that Sara Robinson wants to blame *Individuals* for fascism, when it is the *government* that has assumed overbearing authority.
We agree that fascism is coming on us. This will hurt all individuals, unless the individual is part of the government that has turned fascist. Bush and Obama are one and the same ugly monster.
Sorry, I disagree. Our form of government is flawed to say the least, but there is only one side of the aisle that's leaning toward fascism and that's the GOP. The government isn't the problem, it's those corporate power brokers that got beat last November. They can't win elections any more so they've resorted to mob rule. Classic fascism.
ReplyDeleteTheir tactics and methods are right out of the Franco/Mussolini playbook. I won't put the little Austrian nutbag in this comparison. He's a case all by himself. But that said, the way his brownshirts got the German people to go after the Jews is frighteningly similar to what these thugs are doing at these Town Hall meetings.
How do we combat this? Well, its going to have to come from the Netroots. We can't count on our reps in Congress for one simple reason: The Dems are cowards. They could change the rhetoric back to the positive if they had any kind of backbone at all. They don't.
I also have a problem putting Obama in the same league as Bush. That's comparing apples to hand grenades. The damage done to this country by Bush/Cheney will take many years and lots of guts to overcome. Add to that the hatemongers of the GOP spending hundreds of millions of dollars to maintain the status quo and you have a picture of the mountain we have to climb.
The only way America is going to be brought back from the brink is to act right fucking now! I know who my enemy is and they wear GOP colors. The sooner we can push our agenda back into the forefront, the sooner we can get back on the road to recovery. Harry Reid and the rest of the Dem leadership be damned.
Barack Obama does not want to be the new American Il Duce'. Rush Limbaugh does.
I disagree with all of yas.

ReplyDeleteAuthoritarianism is the watchword. Many multigenerationaql studies have been made trying to understand. The US started it all back in 1947 when we wanted to understand what happend to turn a "civilized" nation like Germany into a Fascist nation(Most were sheeple?). Thus the studies. How does that affect us? Simple. The authoritarian movement is growing. 5 years ago I was making comments about this and predicting that within 50-100 years the US would-while maintaining the shell of representative democracy-become a theocratic fascist dictatorship. It all depends on whether or not the Authoritarian republicians can control the evangelical xristians and their apocalyptic dreams of WWIII-nuclear-. The US Army and AF are the current targets of the evangelical wing. And they are making inroads. So much so that some entire units have attempted to xristianize both Iraq and Afghanistan.
ReplyDeleteThe real cabal is the combination of the Authoritarian right with the "New American Century Neocon" who at this point(aprox 3 years ago) encompass Big Energy, Big Arms, Big Media and Big Jesus. All of whom are working for a state of constant low level war in order to preserve the social order of which they constitute the Oligarchy.
Then we have the majority of US citizens who are, to put it nicely, sheeple. Very easy to manipulate. Propaganda is what we are fed on the nightly network news only by reading/watching the news from other countries can one get the entire picture. Which is this. The rest of the world is watching to see what happens(they are afraid of us, esp our allies). We are an empire building bully with the biggest and best military in the world. And some want very much to use it, as we did in Iraq, to gain or regain for the oligarchs the natural resources that they lost. It all comes down to what the NACN wants. They own both sides in congress. There is very little difference between Ds and Rs. In any case, I do not think that we can do much to change the future course of the US. I just hope that I will be dead before the end of the 200+ year republic form of govt dies.
if it can happen in 20th century europe it can happen here
ReplyDeleteand people like Rush and the GOP in congress are moving it right along
and they have their star in Sarah Palin -
